Diana: Writer and Copywriter
Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I not just do the writing myself?

Do you really have the time to create powerful messages? Effective writing and editing is labor intensive. Writing great copy takes a lot thinking time and sweating over word selection and order. Why increase your stress levels by taking on a task you're not trained to do? It's much better to let me take care of the wordplay so that you can focus your energies on running your business or planning sales strategies.

Who do you work with?

Since the biggest chunk of my writing deals with sales and marketing, I work mostly with marketing managers, production managers, and advertising directors. With smaller businesses, I work with the owner directly or the general manager.

A small percentage of my work is for magazines. When I write for magazines, I work with editors and managing editors.

Have you written for my type of business?

If you need polished sales and marketing materials, then I can do it. I have written about a variety of fields. If I haven't written about your field specifically, then I'll study background material gathered from my own efforts and information provided by you. This will give me enough knowledge to confidently write about your product or service.

What kind of copy do you write?

I write sales letters, advertising copy, Web sites, company biographies and profiles, brochures, postcards, press releases, radio spots, e-books, articles, newsletters, and product and catalogue descriptions.

If you have a writing need not included in this list, just send me your specifications and I'll let you know what I can do.

Contact Diana here.

What kind of copy do you not write?

I don't write copy that promotes or endorses pornography, profanity, violence, illicit drugs, or smoking.

I also don't write technical content like manuals for applications or equipment. As an independent contractor, I also rarely write television commercials. Television commercials are costly, and if you want them done properly, you should go to an agency.

Can I see previous work?

Absolutely! Please visit my portfolio.

What do you need from me?

If you'd like to hire me as your writer or copywriter, I need to know specifics about your project, and the desired goals of your copy. I need to know its purpose and the message you'd like to get across. I also need information about your target audience. The more detailed the information, the better. Copy for affluent MOPEs (Managers, Owners, Professionals and Executives), for example, will take a different approach than copy for teenagers.

In order to help me understand your product, service, or company, I'll also need as much background information as possible. If you have a copy platform, great! (A copy platform is an informal set of guidelines meant to make sure the message in all your marketing materials is consistent. Contact me if you'd like to find out what to include in a copy platform.)

Can you guarantee a specific response?

No, I'm afraid not. Maybe I could if I had the magical ability to make all wishes come true, like Cinderella's fairy godmother. But in real life there are too many variables that affect customer response. I simply cannot control what people think; I can only do my best to influence their decisions in your favor. And I can work closely with you and use my skills to help you make your marketing materials more effective.

How long will it take you to write my copy?

I like to have at least one week for smaller projects and several weeks for larger ones. This gives me enough time to create the best copy I can for you. If you need a job done faster than this, contact me and I'll see what I can do for you.

What if I don't like what you produce?

Revisions, until you're satisfied, are included in the quoted price unless otherwise stated.

What do you charge?

Total cost depends on the length and complexity of your project. If you'd like a general idea of what I charge, please fill out the below form and I'll send you my rate sheet.

I request 50 percent up front from all new clients. An invoice for the balance is always sent to you approximately one week after the delivery of the first draft. All invoices are due upon receipt.

I send a letter of agreement for every job. Click here to see a sample letter of agreement.

How do I pay?

I accept checks (or spelled "cheques" in Canada), money orders, PayPal payments, and electronic money transfers (EMTs).

Do we need to meet in person?

I live and work in Canada, but write for clients all over the English-speaking world. So, no, it's not necessary to meet in person. Copywriting assignments can usually be handled by phone, fax, or e-mail.

You'll find that hiring a copywriter or writer who doesn't need to meet in person can save you money. Most writers and copywriters will charge you for traveling to your office to meet.

How do I hire you?

All you have to do is contact me with your project needs. I accept phone calls and e-mail letters, but often contacting me by e-mail works better due to time differences.

I look forward to hearing from you.
